Vinnie
Ralph has over 30 years of extensive handicapping
experience in both Thoroughbred and Harness racing.
After reading his first handicapping book, "Ainslie's
Complete Guide to Harness Racing" while still in
high school, he cut his "handicapping teeth"
on the Harness side of the game in the fall of 1970 on
the Yonkers/Roosevelt circuit. Like many racing fans
of that era, Vinnie quickly became enamored of the
Thoroughbred game during the 1973 Triple Crown
campaign of the immortal Secretariat.
In the early '90's Vinnie began assembling his own
comprehensive information bank on two of his growing
handicapping passions, the Kentucky Derby and the
Breeders' Cup. He's the only one we know of who has a
complete library of Kentucky Derby past performances
going back to 1952, as well as all of the Breeders'
Cup past performances going back to the first running
in 1984.
Over the years, Vinnie has used this wealth of
information to identify important handicapping
concepts and trends that have appeared in articles
he's written for American Turf Monthly, beginning with
the Breeders' Cup Distaff in 1991. In subsequent years
Vinnie has written American Turf Monthly articles on
the BC Mile, BC Turf and BC Classic. When it was
chosen to be reprinted for the 1999 Breeders' Cup
issue, Vinnie's 1993 BC Classic piece was named by
then Editor Ian Blair as the best "system
article" he ever ran at American Turf Monthly.
Vinnie also wrote the lead handicapping articles on
the Kentucky Derby for "ATM" in 1993 and
1994.
In 1995, Vinnie followed his home grown
"checklist" approach to the Kentucky Derby
to his best single race score ever, cashing the $480
Thunder Gulch/Tejano Run exacta 13 times via a 5 horse
box and a secondary front & back part wheel on
Tejano Run, his key horse.
1998 was a banner handicapping year for Vinnie, who
parlayed his 4 figure score on the $291.80 Real
Quiet/Victory Gallop Kentucky Derby exacta into a
"megascore" in the inaugural $1,000,000
guaranteed Pick 6 at Hollywood Park on 6/14/98. On
that day Vinnie's team of investors cashed a winning
Pick 6 ticket for $53,357.60, taking home a total of
over $68,000 including consolations on their
investment of $5,936.
In 2000, Vinnie's "checklist" approach to
handicapping the Breeder's Cup worked to perfection,
as his group of Breeders' Cup investors cashed in for
the $45,772 Pick 6. The total take in that Pick 6
exceeded $54,000 with consos. About a month later,
Vinnie's group struck again, sinking their teeth into
a $494,000 two day carryover at Hollywood. When
the dust settled, they cashed the $9,509 Pick 6 four
times. The total take that day exceeded $44,000,
including 62 consos of $102 each on their total wager
of $6,144.
Recently Vinnie has been focusing more and more of his
handicapping energy on the Pick 4, a superb wagering
tool which has been growing in popularity at big and
small tracks alike, both Thoroughbred and Harness. The
Meadowlands Harness has been offering their $50,000
guaranteed Saturday night Pick 4 pool for well over a
year. Sam Houston now has TWO nightly Pick 4's....with
a carryover provision to boot. Cal Expo Harness
recently began a $25,000 guaranteed Pick 4 pool on
Sunday nights.
The Pick 4 will be the focal point of Vinnie's
offerings on our website, with a flexible approach
that fits the level of difficulty and pool size of
each individual Pick 4 situation. As a big proponent
of partnering on Pick 4 and Pick 6 wagers in pursuit
of those monster payoffs, many of Vinnie's multiple
ticket plays will not be inexpensive. But in most
cases they'll keep you right in the hunt….and put
you in the winner's circle…..as you'll soon find
out.
